Render HD videos with Movie Maker.

Post by captainjohn » Tue Mar 13, 2012 2:59 am

First of all download Windows Movie Maker 2.6.
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=34

Then you will need to get the HD Plugins for Windows Movie Maker 2.6 from here http://www.bauer-power.net/2009/04/crea ... maker.html

Once downloaded, it should be in a .zip file.
Unzip this file and inside there's a folder called HD Plugins with 4 .prx files that you will need.

Now, once you have installed Windows Movie Maker 2.6, go to this location C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker 2.6\Shared (This is for Windows 7, it works with XP/Vista etc).

Once you have gone to this location create a folder name Profiles. (It needs to be spelt exactly like this).

Now copy the 4 .prx files into the folder named Profiles, only copy the 4 .prx files and not the original folder.
It should then look like this.

Now we are ready to load up Windows Movie Maker 2.6.

Now drag a movie file into the timeline/storyboard of Windows Movie Maker.

Now once you have added effects/transitions/music etcetera you save it as a project. (This is vital because sometimes Windows Movie Maker 2.6 crashes on Windows 7).

One you have saved the project, go to File - Save Movie File - My Computer - Create a name for the movie.
Then when you chose the quality, click on Other Settings and you should get something like this up.

Now render it as any of the HD ones you want.

What's great about this method?
1) It's free.
2) Faster than Sony Vegas.
3) If you want to upload a game clip fast, this is the best method.
4) It shortens a Fraps File from what was originally 200MB to MB (For example).

I will update this shortly.

Known Errors.
I have used this method on both Windows 7 and Windows XP.
So far an error I have come across is when you try and Save Movie File as, Windows Movie will crash.

So when you are creating your Movie Maker video, make sure you save the project as before rendering the video as if it does crash, you can just open the Movie Maker file.

After it crashes, it shouldn't crash again, so you should be safe to continue rendering videos.

Just put it where movie maker was installed, most likely in your Program Files folder.

You need the v2.6? Because the link you gave is a Movie Maker for W Vista.

Even if it's for Vista it should work on XP/7.

Good job. I'd like to mention this for people unable to distinguish between:

C:\Program Files (x86)\
is the location of all applications on the computer running on 64 bit architecture. If you're using a 32 bit OS, you won't find this on your OS partition; instead use C:\Program Files\

Although, 64 bit OS installations can have both the folders, which is because not all applications on your 64bit OS are running on 64 bit architecture. Therefore, all the 32 bit applications are placed separately within the \Program Files\ folder.
There's no such thing as hell; you can get used to anything in 2 weeks ~Songs_Lord
